Fisherman
Fuseta or Fuzeta [fuˈzetɐ] is the closest village to Casa Flor de Sal and can be reached by walking or cycling 3.5Km through the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. Alternatively one can drive there.

Fuseta is quite small with only c. 2500 permanent inhabitants but it has a long history. It already appeared in the days of the Portuguese Discoveries, when the town’s fishermen sailed aboard the Caravelas and one of its residents, Gaspar Corte-Real, is thought to have participated in the Portuguese discovery of Newfoundland in 1500.

Today Fuseta lives from fishing, shell fish farming and turism and is quite lively, especially in the summer. It has long promenades along the lagoon & river fronts, many restaurants and cafés, a market with fresh fish, vegetables and fruit, some supermarkets and many other shops. All year around you find retired locals & turists playing petanque, fisherman mending their nets and children playing football at the local public facilities.

PraiaTesos
Fuseta has two beaches. The first, which the locals call “Praia dos Tesos”, is a small beach on the lagoon in the town itself. Families with small children will appreciate it as being in the lagoon it is wave free and very safe, it also has very easy access and cafés which are open virtually all year. The water is also always a little warmer than the beaches facing the open sea. However, it is somewhat muddy at the lowest tide.

IlhaFuseta
Fuseta's other beach is on Ilha de Armona, the sand island separating the lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. You can also swim here on the lagoon side without waves. However, the 'real' Fuseta beach is on the Atlantic side. Close to the landing pier there are cafés, parasols and sun loungers for rent, life-guards and public facilities. This area can be quite busy in August, however, the beach extends left and right for several kilometers and those seeking some more peace and privacy can walk for five, ten, twenty minutes or more and find as much beach to themselves as they wish.

Ferry
During the summer season there are ferry boats every 20 minutes or so that take you to the island beach (return trip costs €1.5) and all year around there are Taxi boats available to take & pick you from the most beautiful & secluded beach spots.

From Fuseta you can also go for boat trips in Ria Formosa, look for Dolphins in at sea, go fishing, kite surfing and more.
