The local roads are fairly quiet, and as a bonus the Ecovia passes close to the house. Now, if your Portuguese is a bit rusty, I can give you the short version of what the Ecovia is, in English, here:
The part from our house to Vila Real is finished, and it is really a great way to go to Fuseta to the cafés, beach, shopping. It is (mostly) nicely surfaced, mountain bike not necessary, well marked and quite pleasant. And there are picnic places, some even with tap water provided. All in all, a very good idea, and most of what I have seen well executed too.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find information about this great project in English. If you ask a tourist office, they have heard about it, but do not yet have any official information. Same if you google, nothing official. This may be because it is not finished yet, and therefore not officially inargurated. I had to take a photo of a map to get the one above.
This is how the signposting of the
route looks outside the towns and cities. Very easy to
spot.
In urban areas I have seen these two
markings, which also work quite well.
