Casa Flor de Sal is an old house. The oldest part of the house was built in the late 18th century and has been extended, changed and modernised many times since then. This gives the house many interesting features, charm and character.

As in many rural houses in southern Portugal, Casa Flor de Sal is built as a "monte". That means one family built the first part, and more was then added for children, old parents or extended family over the years; the newest part is from around 1900. At one time there were 4 families living in the property.

Casa Flor de Sal used to be a small farm (4500 sqm) where most likely people lived from varied agriculture with a bit of fishing and shellfish harvesting on the side. Our closest neighbours still harvest shellfish for a living and, if you wish, we can organise to get you freshly picked sea food on a daily basis.
